How Microdermabrasion works
The formation of wrinkles is unavoidable and everyone experiences it at some point. However, there are some factors which can damage the skin considerably. Chronic acne, scars from operations, burn wounds, pigment spots, stretch marks caused by weight gain or pregnancy, are a few examples of skin damage which can bother people or disrupt their daily lives. With microdermabrasion, this skin damage can be reduced to a minimum. In addition, the appearance of wrinkles can be visibly reduced.
Possible applications
Microdermabrasion has many applications and is mostly used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and to give the skin a younger appearance. Pigment spots can also be treated so that they become barely visible. It can be used to treat chronic acne, reducing the acne considerably. In addition, if someone used to suffer from acne, which has left scars on the skin, microdermabrasion can make the skin smoother. The visibility of scars from cuts, burns and stretch marks (as a result of pregnancy) can be considerably reduced using microdermabrasion.
The treatment
Microdermabrasion is applied in a course of weekly treatments until the desired result has been achieved. Then a treatment every 4 to 6 weeks is enough to maintain the obtained result. The treatment in itself is intensive. You can feel the crystals moving over the skin, but this is not usually experienced as painful.
How long does a treatment take?
A course of treatment is preceded by an intake interview in order to determine whether the skin requiring treatment can actually be treated. The first treatment always lasts 50 minutes, in order to make a good start to the course. Subsequent treatments last a minimum of 25 minutes.
After the treatment
After the treatment, the skin will feel a bit tight and show some redness, similar to mild sunburn.
A thin layer of skin has been removed, so a good after-treatment of your skin is necessary.
The special lotion, with serum and the cream which you should use after the treatment will produce a pleasant sensation and speed up the recovery of the skin. These products are completely attuned to the microdermabrasion treatment.
What you cannot do after the treatment
For an optimal result and to reduce the risk of infections, the following activities are not advisable:
• Active sports for a few days after the treatment
• A sauna visit for a few days after the treatment
• Touching the skin with unwashed hands for a few days after the treatment
• Sunbathing or using a sunbed for 4 weeks after the treatment
• Using oil-based products on your skin for a few days after the treatment
• Swimming for a few days after the treatment
The results
ooDepending on the purpose of the course of treatment, the number of treatments can be roughly determined. For freshening up the skin or to treat stretch marks, an average course of 4-5 treatments is needed; and for scars or deep wrinkles 12-15 treatments. Of course, this all also depends on the ability of your skin to regenerate and how you take care of your skin between treatments, using the special products.
